One of my favorite features in Ubuntu and most missed in Windows is the ability to scroll the window under your cursor, not the selected one. If you have more than one screen you’re bound to love this free program.

Have you ever had that sudden urge to check something on your computer in the middle of the night only to be blinded by your screen? F.lux is a yet another simple but amazing program. It fixes the problem by adjusting the color temperature of your monitor. During the day it keeps your monitor looking like the sun and at night gives it a warm temperature. This completely gets rid of the blinding effect and is noticeable easier on your eyes at night. Disable it and you’ll notice the difference fairly quickly.

The amount it adjusts your display by is configurable. You can also set how quickly it fades between the day and night modes. During the configuration it will ask for your zip code or latitude and longitude. It uses this to configure when the change happens based on when the sunset and sunrise usually is in your area at the current date.

This is a program you’ll either love or hate. Some people who I’ve shown this to hate the color at night and disable it because of that. If you keep it on for a bit you’ll probably get used to it and your eyes wont thank you when you disable it.

WizMouse

One of my favorite features in Ubuntu and most missed in Windows is the ability to scroll the window under your cursor, not the selected one. If you have more than one screen you’re bound to love this free program.

WizMouse is an excellent free program that does exactly that. All you have to do is download, install, launch, and forget.  It even adds scrolling to those older programs that don’t support it!

The first time you start the program you are greeted with a very simple settings dialog. You can set if it should be started with Windows, if the tray icon should be hidden, as well as a few more options.

If you only have a single screen you probably wont have much use for this. But if you’ve got two or more you’re bound to love it!
